Smoke erupts from transformer at Burrabazar crossing, sparks panic
A complaint has been filed against former West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim at Bidhannagar South Police Station, with the complainant demanding his arrest over alleged communal and offensive remarks. BJP worker Sanjay Payra submitted the complaint on Wednesday, alleging that Hakim made derogatory comments about women and insulting remarks about the Prime Minister during a political meeting in Sandeshkhali on November 7, 2024. The complainant claimed that video evidence of the statements exists and alleged that an earlier attempt to file a complaint was not accepted by the police.
According to the complaint, Firhad Hakim also made religiously provocative remarks during a government event on July 3, 2024, while serving as a minister. Payra alleged that the statements promoted religious division and communal tensions. He stated that a complaint had previously been submitted regarding those remarks but was not registered at the time. The complaint filed on Wednesday seeks legal action over both sets of alleged statements.
Speaking after filing the complaint, Payra said that complaints against BJP workers were accepted during the previous administration while complaints filed by BJP members were allegedly not entertained. He stated that the police have now accepted the complaint and called for action against Firhad Hakim. The development comes amid multiple complaints and investigations involving several Trinamool Congress leaders following the change in government, with attention focused on the next steps in the police inquiry into the allegations.
